My Little Fish

As soon as I can figure out how to get the videos saved to my computer, I will post them.  Kingston is swimming like a fish these days.  He can hold his breath for a crazy amount of time, likes to be pushed under to the bottom of the pool to pick toys up, does full-on cannon balls off the side, and can jump in and swim to the steps unassisted.

The only problem?  He cannot, cannot, CANNOT get his little head above the water to take a breath.  He can swim, yes.  But he can't breathe while swimming, which is sort of a critical part of it. :)  I'm not sure if he is just not strong enough to paddle his arms while getting his head up, whether he is just being lazy about it since I am always there to grab him if he needs to come up, or if the just needs someone (other than Mom) to teach him how to do it.  Regardless, he is a great swimmer, especially for being only 3 1/2!

I'll post the video eventually!

Comic Relief

We have been going swimming at the Y this winter and spring.  Kingston loves it and I love having something active to do with him indoors.  Also, Nigel usually goes along with us, so it has been a great family outing.

The only problem with the pool is that, while the air is usually warm, the combo of the water and air sometimes make Kingston a little chilly.  May have something to do with the fact that he has not a single ounce of fat on his body.  I mean, I never find myself shivering.  But let's not analyze that.

The solution:

He looks like the cutest little frog!  Two good things about his new wetsuit:  1.  He stays warm and isn't too cold and ready to get out after 10 minutes.  2.  I get a good giggle at him in his wetsuit.  It totally makes me smile!

And today.  Well, today Kingston is the Ring Bearer in our friends Billy and Jessie's wedding.  Wish us luck.  I know one thing for sure.  Even if he doesn't perform at the wedding, he will look darn cute doing whatever he is doing.  Pictures.  I promise.

Water Monday

Doesn't have a nice ring to it like Water Wednesday but, I mean, it was Monday. And we played in the water all day. Give me a break! Some things I just can't help.

Yesterday morning Kingston had his 18 month check-up. We went to see Nurse Karen and the doctor and discovered that Kingston is 32 inches tall and weighs 22.8 lbs. I thought for sure he would weigh a lot more than that but I think his running and busy-body activities have kept the weight off! He met all of the important 18 month milestones and was deemed a very healthy and happy big boy! Nurse Karen gave him 2 shots (not as traumatic as it could be) and we were on our way.

And our way lead us to the sound beach behind Jockey's Ridge. We played there for about 2 hours. Since the water had a bit of a chop to it and it wasn't as clear as it was last time we were there, Kingston had more fun digging holes and filling them with water in the shoreline than walking out in the water.

When the eye rubbing and other tired signs started to show we headed home. Kingston had a 2 hour nap and when he woke up he was good as new. So we headed off to Southern Shores to swim at my friend Sherry's parent's pool. We played with Will, Sherry, Helen and G and Ninna and had a great time! Sherry took some pictures of Helen and Kingston kicking on the stairs.

There were a few battles over who could play with what toy and Helen really wanted to "help" Kingston into the pool with a small shove but all of that is to be expected! They had fun and by the time we left, Kingston was blowing bubbles in the water, kicking his legs and wanting to swim in the deep end!
Back to the real world today. If I can just get Kingston to finish his breakfast. . .
